  • 1Z98 1505 Poole-Oxford and 1O19 1827 Oxford-Southampton could have been cancelled or part cancelled following the 47854 loco failure (it had also failed yesterday), it was initially thought to have been 47841 that had suffered, but it was 854 that was removed from the train at Didcot after being observed covered in oil earlier at Oxford. 1O19 was seen arriving on time however with 47841 at Poole at 2010 before heading ECS to London.

  • As mentioned before, there are no Nuneaton drags today.
  • 47784, 47805, and 47812 were involved in drags between Bletchley and Tring today, and 47150 is also believed to have worked (see workings above). Other trains hauled by 47's are currently unknown. This was due to the overheads being isolated after an engineering over-run. The OHLE was turned on at 1300.
  • 47810 is still at Crewe, believed to be having attention to its engine due to excessive cab vibration.
  • Between working 1M87 and 1V97, 47829 was stabled oddly at Nuneaton.

  • The West Coast main line at Quintishill is now open, so last nights 1M11 2341 Glasgow-Euston sleeper service which was dragged by 47786(?) was the last diversion via the Glasgow and South Western route.
  • Tonight 1V99 was to terminate at Birmingham.
  • After a recent run of good reliability from the 47/8's, 47840 failed yesterday on 1V48, and today 47847 failed (at Crewe?) on 1V43. 87012 took 1V43 to Birmingham, where 47853 took over, two hours late.
  • Also running out of coolant forcing the engine to shut down was 47726, this time having made it to Paignton on 1V26 last night. It failed two weeks ago on 1V45 at Bristol. At least this time it nearly managed a full return trip from Birmingham to Paignton and back, only failing at Kings Norton on the return working (1S66) - just over five miles outside Birmingham! 86222 made a VERY rare appearance on the Birmingham West Surburban line to haul it into New Street just over an hour late.
  • Of the three 47's broken up for scrap at Kingsbury last month, 47125, 47297 and 47300 - all three are still there with frames bogies and engines still in place, with all the bodywork removed!
  • Nuneaton drags are OFF tomorrow, due to a show at Birminghams National Exhibition Centre, which would lead to overcrowding on the replacement bus services to Birmingham International. The drags were also cancelled on one Sunday last Summer for the same reason.

  • "57301", the loco that was once 47845 County of Kent is to be named at Euston on Monday morning (17th June). As these loco's are intended to be thunderbirds, relevant thunderbird names are going to be used, ie: 'Thunderbird 1'. Chris Green infamously once said he would love to dump the 47's in the Atlantic Ocean (oddly they kept some and re-engined them), so maybe they should name 57301 "Atlantic" and then go and dump it in it.
    The activities of these non-Sulzer loco's will not be recorded here, unless they are working trains which are normally or often class 47 hauled, like 57601 mentioned on 1A34/ 1C53 - a working which has been 47's at times.
