It will be noted below there are comments about a charter company refusing to use 47s as they cannot sell a coach, never mind a train. At the time Kevin Melia and myself were in talks to begin Compass Tours, and happily we ran two class 47 hauled tours in 2003 and four in 2004 with the West Coast Railway Company.

Apologies for the following. If its been a long day for you don’t bother reading it:
Anyway whilst I was taking a look through some of the emails sent I noticed the following text on one of them (tour company name will not be mentioned):
And the same tour company (mentioned indirectly above) recently sent out a message with their latest tour brochure saying that I will be “removed” from their mailing list as I haven’t travelled on their tours lately. They do say if I send them money I can carry on receiving the brochures.
“Preston-Crewe workings are diverted via Styal or Stockport to Manchester Piccadilly, to Bolton and onto Preston.
Liverpool workings are diverted via Styal or Stockport to Manchester Piccadilly, then via Newton-Le-Willows (Chat Moss) to Liverpool.”
“Preston-Crewe workings are diverted via Styal or Stockport to Manchester Piccadilly, and then continue via Bolton to Preston.
Liverpool workings are diverted via Styal or Stockport to Manchester Piccadilly, then via Chat Moss.” The magazine then continues with a list of all the workings from Sunday 29th September, which were very kindly sent to me by a regular contributor who had taken a lot of his time to help me post the correct information on here, and as usual neither he, nor myself or any other contributors to this site ever receive a thanks in the magazine. To the people who have contributed and helped me keep the site (almost) up to date, took moments of their spare time to email me, and people who congratulated me on the site:
To the people who took the site for granted:
Thanks for your attention, and goodnight.
Well, back to square one:
Anyway I have been asked to give a mention to the following new email group (well he asked me last Monday but 8 days late is better than nothing), called CrankRanters it surprisingly enough involves cranks ranting, often amusing to read.
“Saw this posted on the net. Some eejut had asked xxxxx if they
had any plans to run any Heritage Class 47 tours, the quoted reply follows;
"We have no plans to use the 'heritage' 47's at present as we
believe that such a tour would be completely unsellable over the next year or so. I doubt we could sell a coach, let alone a full train. Given the number of very major problems we have had with 47's failing on us, we are at present looking at ways of avoiding using Class 47's at all."
End of quote.
Hmm, bizarre how many other tour groups fill carriages with enthusiasts on 47 tours, and fill the rest with normal people as well.
Fair enough, this does stop time wasters but I was intending to add a section to this site regarding 47 hauled charters, but now I wont be aware of any of their tours (even though it sounds as if they wont be 47 hauled anyway!!!)
The white text below is copied from my page, and the yellow text is the similar paragraphs quoted in the magazine, with the bits that are exactly the same as mine in orange text.
“....are again being dragged away from the West Coast Main Line between Crewe and Liverpool or Preston.”
“The trains are ‘dragged’....between Crewe and Liverpool or Preston.”
Why do we bother?
Thanks, your comments and information were heartening and invaluable at the time.
Well.....thanks for coming but you'll have to look elsewhere now.

Apparently 1G95/1D67/1G11/1D82 may be hauled very shortly if a 47 is available, along with 1H44/1D45. How much truth is in this rumour???
Thanks to Luke Harmer for the information, and Forghorn and Jon Cowe for other information.
