News:
Note 47197 had moved from Bristol to Crewe, and 47270 has finally gone somewhere away from Crewe! It was at Lawley Street, destination Southampton and allocated to 4O54 to Southampton this afternoon, but had been hauled dead on a train from Basford Hall. 197 was later at Wentloog after working an unknown train.
Correction to Sunday 27/06/04, 47840 DID NOT work 1A27 (this was 57302) or 1F15 1223 Nuneaton-Liverpool. 47840 was at Oxley, still a failure from the previous day.
Also (same day) 47828 did not haul 1G29, this was cancelled – 828 worked 1G39 instead.
Correction to Monday 28/06/04, 47830 was dead in tow on 1A49, not dead on the rear – this meant 87031 had to attach to the front of the service rather than propel.

News:
47816 had been allocated to work 1D87 from Crewe, but due to a drivers safety device (DSD) fault it was delayed for the incoming 47826 on 1A49 to haul 1D87 instead.
47830 was dead in tow (not on the rear as previously stated) of 1A49 0920 Holyhead-Euston throughout behind 87031, after 830's blown turbocharger on Saturday. It was off to Willesden for repairs (at a time when spare 47’s are hard to come by. So many private owners with 47’s under repair but by the time they are it’ll be too late for any regular mainline work.)

News:
The report of 47787 arriving at Healey Mills on 24/06/04 at 1225 was incorrect. It was actually towed on 23/06/04 as 0Z42 1250 Crewe DMD-Warrington Arpley arriving at 1342, then added to the consist of 6L30 1500 Warrington Arpley-Healey Mills Yard arriving there at 1817 (still on 23/06/04) having travelled via Newton-le-willows, Manchester Victoria, Rochdale, & Hebden Bridge.

Observation in the week shows 47004/635/756/782 stored at Old Oak Common although only 756 is in a position to photograph it and would need a telephoto lens.
47298 at Glasgow Works (DRS loco) is now in a XHMW pool, rather than XHSD as it was before. Some other DRS loco's were also moved to this pool around a week ago.
47828 was dead on the rear of 1A32 1001 BNS-Nun/ 1G21 1149 Nun-BNS/ 1A54 1401 BNS-Nun between BNS and Wolves, presumably hauled out from BNS via Duddeston and Bescot by the electric loco it had dragged from/to Nuneaton.
Tomorrow (Monday) 47815 with either 47832 or a 57/6 will work 5Z53 Old Oak-Castle Cary/ 1Z33 1108 Castle Cary-Paddington/ 5Zxx Padd-Castle Cary/ 1Z36 1610 Castle Cary-Paddington/ ECS to Old Oak.
Further to the question on 47375 (in plain black), it has been at Derby RTC since at least mid March!
It was expected that the two Holyhead shuttle sets would today reverse around Chester triangle due to a shortage of loco's but it seems the 47's were actually run around their trains at Chester, as 47826 was seen with DVT 82114 at the Holyhead end on all four of its workings.
1G29 1549 Nuneaton-Stafford was CANCELLED.

News:
As can be seen from yesterdays location list, 47375 has moved from Barrow Hill to Derby RTC. Can anybody confirm when this was moved and by what loco? Thanks.
Nuneaton drags were today extended to Stafford, providing Stafford with a train service as most of the lines around it were closed! Through services to the northwest were diverted via Stoke to Crewe and the north.
47818 led an 86 and Anglia rake of stock to Cambridge from where 818 was removed and the 86 and set continued to Bishop Stortford, returning to Cambridge for 818 to work back through to Norwich, this of course in preparation for the coming drags from July 11th. Until mid morning 818 had been on hire to Freightliner as a standby.
1T13 was a 0520 Holyhead-Liverpool service, electric from Crewe. 1Z90 was a 1649 Glasgow Central-Holyhead – again an electric to Crewe (shame!) For records sake, it called at Glasgow Central (1649), Carlisle (1809), Lancaster (1859), Preston (1920), Wigan North Western (1932), Warrington Bank Quay (1944), Crewe (2021), Chester (2048), Prestatyn (2115), Rhyl (2122), Colwyn Bay (2136) and Llandudno Junction (2144), Bangor (2205), Holyhead (2236).
47830 staggered in to Holyhead after suffering a blown turbocharger at Llanfairfechan on 1T62.
47840 should have begun the diagram starting with 1A11 0700 Stafford-Nuneaton, but failed before departure. 47828 hauled this, leaving almost an hour late.
Freightliner's 47829 was already on hire to Virgin before 47840 had failed, 829 should have only worked 1A08 0600 Stafford-Nuneaton/ 1G44 0004 Nuneaton–Wolves, being Nuneaton standby in between.
57310 also apparently has the ugly ‘Dellner’ couplings on each cab end now, joining 57301, 57302 and 57304 – making them even less appealing than before!

News:
57302 worked 1A06 0549 Wolves-Euston today.
47787 at Healey Mills has already visited Knottingley for defuelling. 47750 is still at Llandudno Jct.
Several trains were dragged (not 'drugged' as previously typed - spent too long checking workings rather than the typing!) between Nuneaton and BNS due to vandals damaging lineside equipment in the Coventry area. It is not thought any 47's were involved, but several 57's plus Network Rail's 31233 were used! 57304/87013 1845 Birmingham New Street - Euston.
47840 was at Willesden on exam prior to working 1G40, only working this service as it was expected to be diverted via Nuneaton, although Coventry had reopened after 840 left Euston.
47841 at Glasgow Works is waiting repair, water having been found in its oil.
Colchester standby 47714 left at 1630 to rescue an unknown failed train, while 47818 was at Ipswich on hire to Freightliner but left at 10:00 for Norwich.
47303 at Ipswich had a 'Not to be moved' sign attached to it during the morning, while 47370 had its engine room door open. 47303 vanished light engine at lunch time but returned during the afternoon – keeping 370 company.

Thanks to contacts for information on the Nuneaton drags on Saturday and Sunday (20th/21st) which didnt happen, I am informed that an article in Rail Express magazine states the Nuneaton drags are on Saturdays and Sundays from 27 June (which is a Sunday) until 25 July (also a Sunday).
But this doesnt explain why they started several weeks ago. They are traditionally cancelled when the Gardener's World is on at the Birmingham NEC, thirdly the Gardener's World show coincided with the Trent Valley being shut, so all other services had to travel via Birmingham.
However, the drags are expected to be on from next Saturday onwards, and as far as I know and have been told (except the Rail Express story) they will be on for the entire summer weekends.
47830 did not unfortunately work 1G39 1812 Euston-Wolverhampton, this was 87035, 830 therefore still being in the London area.

47802 failed on the West Coast Main Line on a freight at milepost 248.5, and is thought to have been rescued by 1M25 (11xx Glasgow-Euston?) which was being hauled by 87010 (with 87004 dead in train).
47816 at Nuneaton has a shifted tyre and is awaiting a wheel skate to enable the loco to be moved.
News from the end of last week and the weekend had been updated again, with a few corrections to allocations - including 47816 which did NOT work 1G47 from Rugby on Friday night, it actually worked the 1827 Manchester-Euston from Nuneaton (see Friday).
Also 47787 hauled 1A49 this morning rather than 47750. On the subject of these two, I have been told that both these loco's are now remaining in service for use on the Holyhead diagrams ONLY until the end of September, so unfortunately no use of Fragonset or Freightliner loco's on these services.

47145 has reappeared at Derby. It was seen at Litchfield Trent Valley heading for Derby last night (Thursday) at approx 2245.
47703 was seen at Woking during the afternoon, having been at Derby in the morning.
47829 worked the ECS stated above, with nine Virgin liveried HST trailers and two Porterbrook barrier vehicles. 829 was seen at Wolverhampton at 1258 and Carstairs South Jct at 1750 and carried the headboard 'Mossend Marauder'.
47830 worked 1A49 throughout due to a DVT fault. It later worked 1D88 back from London, but was removed at Crewe due to requiring an exam at Longsight.
47816 did not (as was allocated) work 1G47 2xxx Euston-Wolves from Rugby-Wolves. 390007 failed on an afternoon Euston-Manchester working at an unknown location. After many stock alterations at Manchester the 1827 Manchester-Euton was formed of a hauled set, with 57302 as the motive power - leaving Piccadilly 57 minutes late. 57302 failed at Nuneaton having lost another 20 minutes, where 47816 worked forward to Euston, arriving in Euston about 0040 - around three hours late!
1G47 was a Pendolino and ran via Stafford to Wolverhampton, missing out Birmingham New Street.

47815 and a 57/6 top’n’tail are the expected loco’s for most of the workings. Rumours suggested you have to have a valid ticket for the Glastonbury Festival to board these trains, but as they are calling at intermediate stations then this would be difficult to police so is unlikely to happen! Any further info on the above is appreciated.
47805 dragged a Pendolino through South Kenton at 1545, the unit had been at the NRM's Railfest.
390029 failed in the Tring area while working 1M28 1339 Glasgow-Euston. 47851 (Watford thunderbird) was sent to assist. Using the emergency coupling, 851 very unusually dragged the 390 with passengers to Watford Junction where the service was terminated. 851 then hauled the Pendolino ECS to Euston.

47197 is to visit this weekends South Devon Railway gala.
Rumours around suggest that recently overhauled 47375 is to have its engine removed for use in 47712 (currently unserviceable), as ETH fitted loco’s are a current priority. 47701 may also return from Ludgershall and be fitted with TPWS. At the end of last year it was running on just two traction motors prior to moving to the MoD depot for shunting units.
It is still thought that Fragonset are the favourites to provide Virgin West Coast with loco’s after EWS withdraw 47750 and 47787 as Freightliner have denied any involvement.
Many people have asked recently what is to become of Cotswold Rail’s 47528, currently at Doncaster. Unfortunately it will not be returned to service, and is intended to be used for parts for other loco’s – although as this was the last 47 built at CREWE as D1111 (not Loughborough as I incorrectly said - D1961, or 47515 was the last one built at Loughborough) its shell may (hopefully) be kept intact.
47033 is still at Doncaster, freshly painted in Cotswold silver but has yet to have branding applied, and is to be named ‘The Cotswold Way’ on entry into service.
47818 will be repainted shortly into the new ‘one’ livery, as per some of the class 90’s now in use on the previously named ‘Anglia’ route. It will not be named ‘Joe Strummer’ as was previously planned when it was to be painted in to BR large logo livery. 47714 is expected to remain in the turquoise Anglia livery.
47813 and 47832 will be joining the Cotswold fleet prior to the Ipswich tunnel blockade which begins on the 11th of next month. Workings for this period are available by clicking here.
It has again been confirmed that two 47/0’s from the Cotswold Rail fleet will be used on Pathfinders Chester-Par tour on Saturday 14th August, although this tour has now been extended through to Penzance.
FGW’s two tone green 47815 has returned to Old Oak Common after its break at the National Railway Museum last week. 47798, which was also at the event is now the property of the NRM.
47810 has worked 1A77 beyond Crewe, departing Crewe at 1608, roughly 20 minutes late.

47828 was again seen, light engine arriving at Preston from the north at 2035, presumably from Carnforth.
This being the second of eight weeks where 47’s on Sunday are top’n’tail between Holyhead and Chester, 47851 failed at Holyhead prior to hauling the 13xx to Chester, 47787 topped it and later hauled it back to Holyhead.
The other set reversed on Chester triangle between 1A75 and 1D88. It is not known if 810 had failed.
47283 arrived at EMR Kingsbury by low loader on Friday or Saturday and was still sat on its trailer today.

The Norwich-Great Yarmouth workings for Sunday (expected to be 47200 + 47714) are: 1G52 0925 Nor-Yarm/ 1G54 1055 Nor-Yarm/ 1G56 1225 Nor-Yarm/ 1G58 1355 Nor-Yarm (arr 1426, stays at Great Yarmouth until next working)/ 1G59 1915 Yarm-Nor/ 1G61 2115 Yarm-Nor/ 1G63 2305 Yarm-Nor.
These are non stop between the terminus points, and return ECS between the workings listed.
Tomorrows Norwich-Scarborough NENTA day excursion will be 47355 and 47703.
After working 1A23 47810 took the stock ECS to Edge Hill. This week all the Euston-Holyhead workings have been starting/terminating at Crewe due to engineering works. Usually an electric loco handled the ECS moves. 810 then returned with the ECS for 1D87 from Edge Hill. Due to arriving rather late the 1049 departure to Holyhead left at 1102.
Worse was to come though, 47810 took the ECS from 1A77 to Edge Hill, and returned with the ECS for 1D88, the 1949 departure. It didnt arrive at Crewe until 2003, and didnt depart (hauled by 47851 with 810 remaining at Crewe) until 2028!!!

57603 is reported as having 'major problems' and is expected to head back to Loughborough for repairs in the next few days.
