  • 47722 had returned to service yesterday, after being dragged dead on 1S48 it later worked 1O38 and 1M81. Unsurprisingly, it failed (again!) at Winchester on 1M81, and was rescued by 66245 which hauled the train to Didcot, then 47847 hauled it to Birmingham.
  • 47734=Kings Cross thunderbird.
  • 47812 is working 1M01 today, which means it cannot have returned on 1M14 yesterday.
  • 57601 is not out today, its usual diagram being covered by 47813.
  • On the subject of 57’s, it is believed (but not confirmed) that 47814 – which was to be the next 47 withdrawn to become a 57, has had a reprieve after the fire to 47849 last week.
  • The two 47’s currently being converted to 57’s (827 and 845) are expected to be very similar to 57601, with the General Motors (GM) power unit and an ex class 56 alternator.
    Further conversions will be fitted with brand new alternators and may also be fitted with a German power unit as the current GM one does not meet European exhaust regulations.
